Sharing a folder???  Username and password??

Windows 8.1 is infuriating to say the least.  This will be my last purchase of a Microsoft product as its obvious something is wrong with the company.

So I have opted to share a folder on my C: drive.. the folder is called "Shared".

When I click on it from my other computer, its asking me for a username and password.    When I configured the folder and homegroup settings, it let me set my own password but there was no mention of what username to use.

So.. I can enter the correct password but it gets rejected because it won't accept the username..      Why does window's do this garbage?  This entire operating system is like a massive Rubik's Cube.   A puzzle of almost infinite paths.   Unbelievably stupid.

You @your other computer is different than you@your other computer, If you wish to access you @your other computer from you@your computer you need to specify your computer.  For example you@your computer is very different than you@your other computer

Care to give us something more specific?

Hi,

Please see the steps below to check whether the method that you set the share folder is same to that below. If not, please set the share folder again by the following steps.

  1. Open File Explorer by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering File Explorer in the search box, and then tapping or clicking File Explorer.
  2. Browse to the item, select it, and then tap or click the Share tab.
  3. Choose an option in the Share with group. There are different Share with options depending on whether your PC is connected to a network and what kind of network it is.

See more information in the link below.

Also, please check whether you joined the homegroup.

Best Regards
